PPi Team Feeds 200 Families

Every year we feed more people than the last, and every year we think about how many more families we want to feed.  We’ve learned a few things over the years about contributing to the community, with the biggest lesson coming this holiday season.

Feeding 200 families is a big deal for us.  Our company consists of about 50 families, all of us feeling the impact of the economic crisis hitting our country and affecting the world.  Feeding so many families under difficult financial conditions would be a challenge.

We learned from years past to get help from major food suppliers months ahead of time. Companies like Publix receive hundreds of requests a week and it takes time for them to respond.

We were organized and committed earlier than ever this year.  Rocky and Brett (far right), as they have for years, lead and coordinate the effort, partnering with the West Palm Beach Salvation Army to distribute the food to the families.  Tom Balletta is a loud and committed supporter of any and all efforts to do good in the world.  And this year, Paul Murphy played a significant role in the campaign, shopping on the weekends, gathering donations, speaking with Publix and Costco.

Despite our planning and organizing, we found ourselves short about 50 families worth of food with only a week to go.  This is where we learned the big lesson.  We turned to our friends, our partners, our vendors for help and they responded HUGE!   They overnighted donations to us left and right and with time to spare we met our goal to feed 200 families.  What we had missed until the last minute was sharing our goal with others.  Next year, we will feed even more families, and we will call on more people to help us do it.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to serve and support our community and we are touched and inspired by the generosity of those who chose to help us.   You can see more pictures and videos of our experience on our webpage http://www.prosperitypartners.com/feedingfamilies.html

Using Resources Wisely Series – Part 7
